Vasarelli Restaurant

The family owned and operated restaurant is right in the heart of the McLaren Vale township; the historic building, surrounded by a large garden right off main street, has been extensively renovated in 2009 to suit its new purpose but maintains the old character.

We love that the restaurant is spread across multiple smaller rooms - keeps the family atmosphere and does indeed feel like being at nonna's for a serve of delicious home cooked pasta. Or during the warmer months, sit outside under the wide wrap-around verandah or in the garden and watch the goings-on in McLaren Vale's main street.

And this being a truly Italian restaurant it is obviously not just about pasta, although nobody will question if you just have the pasta as your main and not as the traditional primi patti.

Pasta ranges from pappardelle, tagllierini, linguine and more - all coming in delicious variations. The slow cooked beef cheek, wild mushroom, rosemary, tomato & shiraz ragu or the pappardelle with duck are both as good as it gets when looking for some feel good comfort food.

And add a glass of McLaren Vale red to that and you have a sample of the best the Fleurieu Peninsula has to offer.

On the odd chance that you are, for whatever inexplicable reason, not into pasta (there is a gluten free option as well), there is always the range of  antipasto platters and the 'true' main courses or secondi patti.

The options range across fish, chicken and beef - all in a home cooked Italian style.

Service is very attentive and welcoming, more likely than not from someone of the extended family and you will be well-looked after.

In short – lovely restored building right in the heart of McLaren Vale, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere and seriously good Italian food  - that's all we need for an everyday lunch or dinner.
